Season 3, Episode 14 "In Praise of Women"
On Valentine's Day, Annie goes into labor with the twins. Her doctor wants her to have a C-section, but she refuses and tells Eric to find Dr. Hastings(the doctor who, as we learned earlier, almost killed Matt when he was born because he was too inexperienced to deal with a high-risk birth). Dr. Hastings(Ed Begley, Jr.) helps her deliver the twins naturally; even when one twin is breech, he manages to turn that one. Meanwhile, a squeamish Matt tries to give blood, but chickens out; he is talked back into it by Simon, who spends his day in the hospital chapel, praying for boys. Lucy decides to break up with her boyfriend Jordan. At the end, the twins turn out to be fine. They are both boys, to Simon's delight, and the family welcomes the twins into the family with a song: the theme song to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", a tradition that, as Annie explains and is shown in flashback, dates back to when Mary was born and Matt sang the song to her.
