Friends was about a group of six friends living in New York City. They included fashion enthusiast Rachel Green(Jennifer Aniston), who moved in with high school friend Monica Geller(Courteney Cox, previously from Family Ties) after fleeing her wedding. The other members of the group included actor Joey Tribbiani(Matt LeBlanc), accountant Chandler BIng(Matthew Perry), musician Phoebe Buffay(Lisa Kudrow), and Monica's older brother Ross(David Schwimmer), a paleontologist who is recently divorced. Ross and Rachel date and break up several times during the show, becoming the Sam and Diane(from Cheers) of the 1990s. They even have a daughter, Emma, in season 8. Otherwise, the show focuses on their comedic adventures and love lives.

Ross is forced to choose between Rachel and girlfriend Julie when Rachel confesses her feelings for him(albeit drunkenly). Rachel seeks Joey's advice. At the end, even though Ross says he is not leaving Julie, the two end up kissing.

Ross tries to get Rachel to forgive him, but she says they do not have a future as a couple. Monica finds a prom video of her and Rachel.The gang watches it, and it is revealed that when Rachel's date was late, Riss was ready to take her to the prom himself, but then her date finally showed up, leaving him rejected. Rachel instantly forgives him.

Season 4, Episode 12 "The One With The Embryos"
The men and women have a contest to see who knows more about the other side. The girls end up betting their apartment, then lose when they can't come up with Chandler's job. An argument ensues when Rachel is unhappy about moving and refuses to do so(she was not consulted about this part of the bet). Meanwhile, Phoebe undergoes IVF to become surrogate for her brother and his wife, and a pregnancy test comes back positive.

Monica and Chandler become parents when Erica, the girl whose baby they are adopting, gives birth to twins, whom they name Erica and Jack. Also, Monica and Chandler are preparing to move to the suburbs. Phoebe rushes Ross to the airport, but to the wrong one. When they finally get to the right one as Rachel is about to board, Ross says he loves her, but she gets on the plane anyway. When Ross comes home, there is a message on the answering machine from Rachel, saying she has decided to get off but it cuts off. Ross turns around to find Rachel, who simply says "I got off the plane", and they embrace. The final scene has everyone gathered at Monica and Chandler's empty apartment. They all leave their keys on the counter and decide to go for one last cup of coffee, as the camera pans around the apartment.
